International Transgender Day of Visibility observed March 31
International Transgender Day of Visibility observed globally on 31st March every year. The day is dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society.
The day was founded by US-based transgender activist Rachel Crandall of Michigan in 2009. As a reaction to the lack of LGBT recognition of transgender people, citing the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centred day was the Transgender Day of Remembrance which mourned the murders of transgender people but did not acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community. The first International Transgender Day of Visibility was held on March 31, 2009. It has since been spearheaded by the U.S.-based youth advocacy organization Trans Student Educational Resources.
RBI Deputy Governor BP Kanungo gets one-year extension
The Central government has extended the tenure of Reserve Bank Deputy Governor BP Kanungo by a year with effect from April 3, 2020. Kanungo, whose term was to end on April 2, had taken charge as a deputy governor in April 2017.
Kanungo has under him at the RBI the Department of Currency Management Department of External Investments & Operations, Department of Government & Bank Accounts, Department of Information Technology and Department of Payment & Settlement System. Other departments are Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), Foreign Exchange Department, Internal Debt Management Department, Legal Department and Right to Information departments. The apex bank has four deputy governors. Other three are S Vishwanathan, M K Jain and Michael Debabrata Patra.
IIT Guwahati team develops drone to sanitise large areas
A team of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has developed a drone to sanitise large areas such as roads, parks and footpaths. The drone comprises of automated sprayer which will help the authorities to sanitise large areas in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The drone installed with automated sprayer has the capability of accomplishing the task of sanitising the area in less than 15 minutes which would otherwise take a person 1.5 days of work. The drone can be operated by using a mobile app and will enable just one person in sanitizing large areas. Hence, it is an effective alternative to the manual spraying disinfectants which needs more cleaners. The drone has a signal range of 3 km and can cover more than 1.2 hectare in one flight and more than 60 hectares in a day.
Legendary historian Arjun Dev passes away
The legendary historian and educationist, Professor Arjun Dev passed away. He was born on November 12, 1938, in Leiah, West Punjab (now in Pakistan). He served as a historian at the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT).
Arjun Dev served as Member Secretary of the National Steering Committee on Textbook evaluation. One of his books, which was discontinued by NCERT and was republished by Orient Blackswan as “History of the World: From the Late 19th to the Early 20th century”, has remained a widely read text.
Karnataka government launches ‘Corona Watch’ app
The state government of Karnataka has launched a mobile application ‘Corona Watch’. The mobile application aims to track the movement history of persons tested positive, before their detection in order to take precautions and to contain the coronavirus outbreak. The app will also provide the date and time of visit to spots by the patients. ‘Corona Watch’ app also comprises a list of government designated first response hospitals for COVID-19 where citizen with symptoms can visit.
In addition to ‘Corona Watch’ app, the Karnataka government has also constituted a ten member Task Force on COVID-19. The task force is utilizing IT applications & GPS to track individuals who are suspected of novel Corona Virus infection. The quarantined persons have been ordered to declare their location every day during the 14 day quarantine period.
Validity extension of expired Driving Licences and Vehicle Registration
In an advisory to all states and Union Territories, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has extended the validity of documents that expired since 1st February 2020. The validity of these documents has been extended till 30th June 2020. The documents include fitness, driving licence, permits (all types), registration or any other concerned document under the Motor Vehicle Rules.
Government introduced dedicated Twitter handle for COVID-19 updates
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has launched a dedicated Twitter handle for COVID-19 updates. This dedicated twitter handle has been set up to share news and updates about the novel coronavirus. The account is named as #IndiaFightsCorona and it uses the handle @CovidnewsbyMIB. The twitter handle would be responsible for sharing authentic information and all updates on Novel Coronavirus. In its first tweet, the dedicated twitter handle has shared the helpline numbers for information on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tata Power JV starts Shuakhevi HPP in Georgia
Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC, a Joint Venture between Tata Power, Norway’s Clean Energy Invest (CEI), and International Financial Corporation (IFC) has announced the start of commercial operation of the 178 MW Shuakhevi Hydro Power Project (Shuakhevi HPP) located in southwest Georgia.
The project will generate around 450 GWh of clean energy to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by more than 200,000 tonnes a year. The power generated by the project will be exclusively sold within Georgia throughout the winter which is a period of energy deficit.
‘Modi Kitchen’ set up in Tamil Nadu
A Modi Kitchen’ has been set up in the Kovai (Coimbatore), Tamil Nadu. The kitchen which has a capacity to serve 500 meals per day will remain operational till 14th April 2020.
The Modi Kitchen aims to deliver food parcels within a range of radius of 10 kms and has been set up in one of the main shopping areas of the city. This initiative has been taken by the functionaries of the Common Service Centre amid the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Utkal Divas or Odisha Day is celebrated on 1 April
Utkal Divas (Odisha Day) is celebrated every year on 1st April all over Odisha. Odisha Day is celebrated in the memory of the formation of the state as a separate province on 1 April 1936. This year marks the 83rd Utkal Divas or the foundation day of Odisha. Odisha was born as a separate state on April 1, 1936, on a linguistic basis. The state was carved out of the combined Bengal-BiharOrissa province.
IIT Kanpur to develop low-cost portable ventilator
Amidst the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur is developing portable ventilators which will be significantly cheaper than the ones available in the market. The prototype of this ventilator will be ready very soon and just after assembling, it can be used as a life support system. The ventilator is a very important medical equipment for COVID-19 Patients, especially those who are old and the virus can prove fatal to them.

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ट्रांसजेंडर दिवस 31 मार्च को मनाया गया
अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ट्रांसजेंडर दिवस की दृश्यता हर साल 31 मार्च को वैश्विक स्तर पर देखी जाती है। यह दिन ट्रांसजेंडर लोगों को मनाने और दुनिया भर में ट्रांसजेंडर लोगों के साथ होने वाले भेदभाव के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के साथ-साथ समाज में उनके योगदान के उत्सव के लिए समर्पित है।
इस दिन की स्थापना अमेरिका स्थित ट्रांसजेंडर एक्टिविस्ट रशेल क्रैन्डल ऑफ मिशिगन द्वारा 2009 में की गई थी। ट्रांसजेंडर लोगों की एलजीबीटी मान्यता की कमी के रूप में एक प्रतिक्रिया के रूप में, इस निराशा का हवाला देते हुए कि एकमात्र जाने-माने ट्रांसजेंडर-सेंटरिंग डे ट्रांसजेंडर डे ऑफ रिमेंबरेंस था ट्रांसजेंडर लोगों की हत्याओं पर शोक व्यक्त किया लेकिन स्वीकार नहीं किया और ट्रांसजेंडर समुदाय के जीवित सदस्यों को मनाया। 31 मार्च, 2009 को दृश्यता का पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ट्रांसजेंडर दिवस आयोजित किया गया था। इसके बाद से यू.एस.-आधारित युवा वकालत संगठन ट्रांस स्टूडेंट एजुकेशनल रिसोर्सेज का नेतृत्व किया गया है।
आरबीआई के डिप्टी गवर्नर बीपी कानूनगो को एक साल का एक्सटेंशन मिला
केंद्र सरकार ने 3 अप्रैल, 2020 से रिजर्व बैंक के डिप्टी गवर्नर बीपी कानूनगो का कार्यकाल एक साल के लिए बढ़ा दिया है। कानूनगो, जिसका कार्यकाल 2 अप्रैल को समाप्त होने वाला था, ने अप्रैल 2017 में डिप्टी गवर्नर के रूप में कार्यभार संभाला था।
कानूनगो ने उनके अधीन भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक के मुद्रा प्रबंधन विभाग और विदेशी परिचालन विभाग, सरकार और बैंक खातों के विभाग, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग और भुगतान और निपटान प्रणाली विभाग में कार्य किया है। अन्य विभाग हैं डिपॉजिट इंश्योरेंस एंड क्रेडिट गारंटी कॉर्पोरेशन (DICGC), फॉरेन एक्सचेंज डिपार्टमेंट, इंटरनल डेट डेट डिपार्टमेंट डिपार्टमेंट, लीगल डिपार्टमेंट और सूचना का अधिकार विभाग। शीर्ष बैंक में चार डिप्टी गवर्नर होते हैं। अन्य तीन एस विश्वनाथन, एम के जैन और माइकल देवव्रत पात्रा हैं।
आईआईटी गुवाहाटी की टीम बड़े क्षेत्रों को साफ करने के लिए ड्रोन विकसित किया
भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, गुवाहाटी की एक टीम ने सड़क, पार्क और फुटपाथ जैसे बड़े क्षेत्रों को सेनेटाइज़ करने के लिए एक ड्रोन विकसित किया है। ड्रोन में स्वचालित स्प्रेयर शामिल है जो कि COVID-19 के प्रसार को रोकने के लिए बड़े क्षेत्रों को साफ करने में अधिकारियों की मदद करेगा।
स्वचालित स्प्रेयर के साथ स्थापित ड्रोन में 15 मिनट से कम समय में क्षेत्र को साफ करने के कार्य को पूरा करने की क्षमता है जो किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा 1.5 दिन किया जाता। ड्रोन एक मोबाइल ऐप का उपयोग करके संचालित किया जा सकता है और बड़े क्षेत्रों को साफ करने में केवल एक व्यक्ति द्वारा किया जा सकेगा। इसलिए, यह मैन्युअल छिड़काव करने वाले कीटाणुनाशक का एक प्रभावी विकल्प है जिसे अधिक क्लीनर की आवश्यकता होती है। ड्रोन की सिग्नल सीमा 3 किमी है और यह एक उड़ान में 1.2 हेक्टेयर से अधिक और एक दिन में 60 हेक्टेयर से अधिक को कवर कर सकता है।
महान इतिहासकार अर्जुन देव का निधन
महान इतिहासकार और शिक्षाविद्, प्रोफेसर अर्जुन देव का निधनहो गया। उनका जन्म 12 नवंबर, 1938 को पश्चिम पंजाब (अब पाकिस्तान) के में हुआ था। उन्होंने नेशनल काउंसिल ऑफ एजुकेशन रिसर्च एंड ट्रेनिंग (NCERT) में एक इतिहासकार के रूप में कार्य किया।
अर्जुन देव ने पाठ्यपुस्तक मूल्यांकन पर राष्ट्रीय संचालन समिति के सदस्य सचिव के रूप में कार्य किया। उनकी एक पुस्तक, जिसे NCERT द्वारा बंद कर दिया गया था और ओरिएंट ब्लैक्सवान द्वारा “विश्व का इतिहास: 19 वीं सदी के अंत से 20 वीं सदी के अंत तक” के रूप में पुनः प्रकाशित किया गया था, एक व्यापक रूप से पढ़ा गया पाठ बना हुआ है।
कर्नाटक सरकार ने ‘कोरोना वॉच’ ऐप लॉन्च किया
कर्नाटक की राज्य सरकार ने एक मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन ‘कोरोना वॉच’ लॉन्च किया है। मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन का उद्देश्य सावधानी बरतने वाले व्यक्तियों को ट्रैक करना है, उनका पता लगाने से पहले सावधानी बरतने और कोरोनावायरस के प्रकोप को रोकने के लिए। ऐप मरीजों द्वारा स्पॉट पर जाने की तारीख और समय भी प्रदान करेगा। ‘कोरोना वॉच’ ऐप में COVID-19 के लिए सरकार द्वारा नामित पहले प्रतिक्रिया अस्पतालों की सूची भी शामिल है, जहाँ लक्षण वाले नागरिक जा सकते हैं।
‘कोरोना वॉच’ ऐप के अलावा, कर्नाटक सरकार ने COVID-19 पर दस सदस्यीय टास्क फोर्स का भी गठन किया है। टास्क फोर्स उन व्यक्तियों को ट्रैक करने के लिए IT एप्लिकेशन और GPS का उपयोग कर रहा है जिन्हें उपन्यास कोरोना वायरस के संक्रमण का संदेह है। संगरोध व्यक्तियों को 14 दिन की संगरोध अवधि के दौरान हर दिन अपना स्थान घोषित करने का आदेश दिया गया है।
समय सीमा समाप्त ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस और वाहन पंजीकरण की वैधता विस्तार
सभी राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों की एक सलाह में, सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय ने दस्तावेजों की वैधता को 1 फरवरी 2020 से समाप्त कर दिया है। इन दस्तावेजों की वैधता 30 जून 2020 तक बढ़ा दी गई है। दस्तावेजों में फिटनेस, ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस शामिल हैं। परमिट (सभी प्रकार), पंजीकरण या मोटर वाहन नियमों के तहत किसी भी अन्य संबंधित दस्तावेज।

टाटा पावर जेवी ने जॉर्जिया में शुआखवी एचपीपी शुरू किया
Adjaristsqali जॉर्जिया एलएलसी, टाटा पावर, नॉर्वे की क्लीन एनर्जी इन्वेस्टमेंट (CEI) और इंटरनेशनल फाइनेंशियल कॉरपोरेशन (IFC) के बीच एक संयुक्त उद्यम, ने दक्षिण-पश्चिम जॉर्जिया में स्थित 178 मेगावाट शुआखेवी हाइड्रो पावर प्रोजेक्ट (शुआखेड़ी एचपीपी) के वाणिज्यिक संचालन की शुरुआत की घोषणा की है।
यह परियोजना प्रति वर्ष 200,000 टन से अधिक ग्रीनहाउस गैसों के उत्सर्जन को कम करने के लिए लगभग 450 गीगावॉट स्वच्छ ऊर्जा उत्पन्न करेगी। परियोजना द्वारा उत्पन्न बिजली विशेष रूप से सर्दियों के दौरान जॉर्जिया के भीतर बेची जाएगी जो ऊर्जा की कमी की अवधि है।
‘मोदी किचन ’तमिलनाडु में स्थापित किया गया
तमिलनाडु के कोवई (कोयम्बटूर) में एक मोदी किचन की स्थापना की गई है। रसोई जिसमें प्रति दिन 500 भोजन परोसने की क्षमता है, 14 अप्रैल 2020 तक चालू रहेगी।
मोदी किचन का उद्देश्य 10 किलोमीटर के दायरे में फूड पार्सल पहुंचाना है और इसे शहर के मुख्य शॉपिंग क्षेत्रों में से एक में स्थापित किया गया है। COVID-19 महामारी के कारण लॉकडाउन के बीच कॉमन सर्विस सेंटर के अधिकारियों द्वारा यह पहल की गई है।
उत्कल दिवस या ओडिशा दिवस 1 अप्रैल को मनाया गया
उत्कल दिवस (ओडिशा दिवस) हर साल 1 अप्रैल को पूरे ओडिशा में मनाया जाता है। ओडिशा दिवस, 1 अप्रैल 1936 को एक अलग प्रांत के रूप में राज्य के गठन की याद में मनाया जाता है। इस वर्ष 83 वें उत्कल दिवस या ओडिशा के स्थापना दिवस को चिह्नित किया गया है। ओडिशा का जन्म एक अलग राज्य के रूप में 1 अप्रैल, 1936 को भाषाई आधार पर हुआ था। राज्य को संयुक्त बंगाल-बिहार ओरिसा प्रांत से बाहर किया गया था।
आईआईटी कानपुर ने कम लागत वाला पोर्टेबल वेंटिलेटर विकसित किया
देश में COVID-19 के बढ़ते मामलों के बीच, भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (IIT) -कानपुर पोर्टेबल वेंटिलेटर विकसित कर रहा है, जो बाजार में उपलब्ध की तुलना में काफी सस्ता होगा। इस वेंटिलेटर का प्रोटोटाइप बहुत जल्द तैयार हो जाएगा और कोडांतरण के ठीक बाद इसे लाइफ सपोर्ट सिस्टम के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है। वेंटिलेटर COVID-19 मरीजों के लिए एक बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण चिकित्सा उपकरण है, खासकर जो पुराने हैं और वायरस उनके लिए घातक साबित हो सकते हैं।
