  1. India handed over 1st US-built Chinook helicopter

India has officially been handed over its first CH-47F Chinook transport helicopter at Boeing’s facility in US’ Philadelphia. India will receive the remaining 14 Chinook helicopters this year, order for which was placed in 2015. Chinook, which is an advanced multi-mission helicopter that can help in delivering heavy payloads to high altitudes, will boost Indian Air Force’s helicopter fleet.

  1. Sanjiv Ranjan appointed as the Ambassador of India to the Republic Of Colombia

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that Sanjiv Ranjan has been appointed as new Ambassador to the Republic of Colombia. Ranjan, who is the current Ambassador to Argentina, is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

Ranjan who is a 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service officer holds a bachelors in Economics from Delhi University and an M.A. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

  1. Qatar defeat Japan to win their 1st ever Asian Cup Title in Football

Qatar defeated four-time champions Japan 3-1 in the final to win their first ever Asian Cup. Qatar forward Almoez Ali broke the record of most goals in a single Asian Cup after netting his ninth goal with an overhead kick, breaking Ali Daei’s 1996 record. This was the first time that Japan lost in an Asian Cup final.

  1. Yes Bank senior group president Pralay Mondal resigns

Yes Bank Senior group President and head of retail and business banking, Pralay Mondal resigned from his post. He will serve his notice until 31st March 2019. Pralay Mondal joined Yes Bank in 2012.

The bank recently named Ravneet Gill as its new MD and CEO. Former CEO Rana Kapoor has demitted office and Ajai Kumar will be the interim chief till Gill takes over.

  1. Former MP DGP Rishi Kumar Shukla appointed as new CBI Director

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led panel has appointed former Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rishi Kumar Shukla as the new CBI Director for a period of two years. Shukla is a 1983batch Madhya Pradesh Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He replaces Alok Verma, who was removed as CBI chief by a PM Modi-led panel on January 10.

  1. INS Dronacharya wins Kochi Area Boat Pulling Regatta 2019

The INS Dronacharya team won the Regatta trophy in the Kochi Area Pulling Regatta 2019 of the Southern Naval Command (SNC) held in the Ernakulam Channel. AntiSubmarine Warfare (ASW) School & Diving School secured the runners up position.

The Boat Pulling Regatta is one of the most prestigious and traditional naval sporting activities conducted by the Navy. Six teams, formed from all major units of SNC based at Kochi, participated in the regatta.
