  1. World Tuna Day observed globally on 2 May

World Tuna Day is observed globally on 2nd May every year. This day is established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about the importance of tuna fish. It is observed for the first time in 2017. According to the UN, an outsized number of nations worldwide depend upon tuna for both food security and nutrition. At the same time, more than 96 countries have tuna fisheries, and their capacity is constantly growing.

The World Tuna Day was officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by adopting resolution 71/124 in December 2016. Its aim was to spotlight the importance of conservation management and make sure that a system is required in place to prevent tuna stocks from crashing. The primary internationally recognized World Tuna Day was observed on 2 May 2017.

  1. Shikha Sharma appointed as advisor of Google Pay India

Former Axis Bank CEO, Shikha Sharma named advisor to Google Pay India. Google Pay is one of the leading apps on Unified Payments Interface (UPI), battling with the likes of Amazon Pay, Paytm, etc.

Sharma’s appointment could be a way forward for Google Pay India’s attempt at a card-based offering, which could be launched soon. Sharma quit ICICI Bank in 2008 to join Axis Bank. She steered Axis Bank till 2018 and transformed it into a major banking entity of the country. Sharma also serves in the board of IT major Tech Mahindra as an independent director.

  1. Lockdown extended for further period of two weeks from 4th May 2020

Under Disaster Management Act, 2005, Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order to further extend the lockdown for a period of two weeks beyond 4 May 2020. The lockdown will thus now remain effective till May 17.

Ministry of Home Affairs also issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into Red (hotspot), Green and Orange Zones.

Guide lines for different zones:

  • The Green-Zones will be districts with either zero confirmed cases till date; or, no confirmed case in the last 21 days.
  • The classification of districts as Red Zones will take into account the total number of active cases, doubling rate of confirmed cases, the extent of testing and surveillance feedback from the districts.
  • Those districts, which are neither defined as Red nor Green, shall be classified as Orange zones.

  1. Chhattisgarh gives maximum jobs under MGNREGA amid lockdown

Chhattisgarh has topped the list of states in terms of providing jobs under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) amid the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. Total of 18.52 lakh labourers were employed in Chhattisgarh, in state’s effort of reviving rural economy and safeguarding the livelihood of the people.

According to the data of Ministry of Rural Development, Chhattisgarh accounts for nearly 24% of the total MGNREGA jobs generated all over the country. As per the data, despite lockdown, a total of 18,51,536 workers carried out MNREGA day jobs in 9,883 gram panchayats of Chhattisgarh.

  1. NCSTC & DST launches “YASH” to fight against COVID-19

National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC) and Department of Science & Technology (DST) has launched a programme on health and risk communication ‘Year of Awareness on Science & Health (YASH)’ with focus on COVID-19. It is a comprehensive science and health communication initiative to promote grass-root level response on health.

The aim of the initiative is to encourage the public engagement and enable communities to increase their sense of awareness against COVID-19. By this, the governments can make informed decisions and manage associated risks. The YASH programme will help in improving risk understanding, indigenous knowledge, bring attitudinal changes, to cope with courage and confidence.

  1. Manipur black rice & Gorakhpur terracotta gets GI tag

Black rice of Manipur, also called the ChakHao, Gorakhpur Terracotta and Kadalai Mittal of Kovilpatti bagged Geographical Indication tag. The application for Chak-Hao was filed by the Consortium of Producers of Chak-Hao (Black Rice), Manipur and was facilitated by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur and the North Eastern ReGIonal Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC). In the case of Gorakhpur terracotta, the application was filed by Laxmi Terracotta Murtikala Kendra in Uttar Pradesh.

  1. “Ramayana” becomes Highest Viewed Entertainment Programme Globally

India’s epic mythological saga of the 1980s, ‘Ramayan’ has created the world record of Highest Viewed Entertainment Programme Globally. On 16th April, 2020, the mythological show was watched by 7.7 crore viewers all over the world.

India’s epic mythological saga “Ramayana” was written and directed by Ramanand Sagar. In 2003, the show made its name in the Limca Book of Records for “the most watched mythological series in the world.”

  1. MoC launches PMU for timely operationalisation of coal mines

A Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) has been launched by the Ministry of Coal (MoC). The Project Monitoring Unit aims to facilitate early operationalisation of coal mines which have been allocated by the Central Government. It will help the Coal mines allocatees in attaining various clearances required from the Central/State government authorities in order to operationalise the mines and hence, will promote Ease of Doing Business in the coal industry.

The Coal mines allocatees have been urged to use the services of the Consultant in solving their issues in order to resume coal production at the earliest. Hence, the Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) will help in advancing the production as well as the business environment in the coal industry.

  1. FIFA launches #WeWillWin campaign to pay tribute to health workers

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has launched a campaign called “#WeWillWin”. Through this campaign FIFA tribute a special video to health workers and other professionals who ensure the society continues to function among COVID-19 pandemic. Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia who is also featured among 50 past and present football stars.

  1. IIT Madras Professor T Pradeep selected for Nikkei Asia Prize 2020

IIT Madras Professor Thalappil Pradeep has been selected for the Nikkei Asia Prize 2020. Professor Thalappil Pradeep will be conferred with the Nikkei Asia Prize 2020 in the category of Science and Technology’. He would be honoured with the prize for his pioneering work in nanotechnology-based water purification.

Professor Thalappil Pradeep has worked on the nanotechnology-enabled water filters which can deliver potable clean water for 2 paisa per litre in India. He was recently awarded by the government of India with the highest civilian honour of the country i.e. Padma Shri Award.

  1. विश्व टूना दिवस 2 मई को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया गया

विश्व टूना दिवस हर साल 2 मई को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया जाता है। यह दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र (यूएन) द्वारा ट्यूना मछली के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए स्थापित किया गया है। यह पहली बार 2017 में मनाया गया है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के अनुसार, दुनिया भर में कई देशों की संख्या खाद्य सुरक्षा और पोषण दोनों के लिए ट्यूना पर निर्भर करती है। इसी समय, 96 से अधिक देशों में टूना मछली पालन होता है, और उनकी क्षमता लगातार बढ़ रही है।

विश्व ट्यूना दिवस को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा (UNGA) द्वारा दिसंबर 2016 में 71/124 के प्रस्ताव को आधिकारिक रूप से घोषित किया गया था। इसका उद्देश्य संरक्षण प्रबंधन के महत्व को स्पष्ट करना और सुनिश्चित करना था कि ट्यूना स्टॉक को दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से रोकने के लिए एक प्रणाली की आवश्यकता है। 2 मई 2017 को अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मान्यता प्राप्त विश्व ट्यूना दिवस मनाया गया।

  1. शिखा शर्मा को Google पे इंडिया की सलाहकार नियुक्त किया गया

एक्सिस बैंक की पूर्व सीईओ, शिखा शर्मा को गूगल पे इंडिया का सलाहकार बनाया गया। गूगल पे, यूनिफाइड पेमेंट्स इंटरफेस (UPI) के प्रमुख ऐप में से एक है, जो Amazon Pay, Paytm, आदि की पसंद से जूझ रहा है।

शर्मा की नियुक्ति गूगल पे इंडिया के लिए कार्ड आधारित पेशकश के प्रयास के लिए एक रास्ता हो सकती है, जिसे जल्द ही लॉन्च किया जा सकता है। शर्मा ने 2008 में एक्सिस बैंक में शामिल होने के लिए ICICI बैंक छोड़ दिया। उसने 2018 तक एक्सिस बैंक का संचालन किया और इसे देश की एक प्रमुख बैंकिंग इकाई में बदल दिया। शर्मा एक प्रमुख निदेशक के रूप में आईटी प्रमुख टेक महिंद्रा के बोर्ड में भी कार्य करती हैं।

  1. लॉकडाउन 4 मई 2020 से दो सप्ताह की आगे की अवधि के लिए बढ़ाया गया

आपदा प्रबंधन अधिनियम, 2005 के तहत, गृह मंत्रालय ने 4 मई 2020 से आगे दो सप्ताह के लिए लॉकडाउन को आगे बढ़ाने का आदेश जारी किया। लॉकडाउन इस प्रकार अब 17 मई तक प्रभावी रहेगा।

गृह मंत्रालय ने इस अवधि में विभिन्न गतिविधियों को विनियमित करने के लिए नए दिशा-निर्देश जारी किए, जो देश के जिलों की रेड (हॉटस्पॉट), ग्रीन और ऑरेंज ज़ोन में जोखिम रूपरेखा पर आधारित हैं।

विभिन्न क्षेत्रों के लिए गाइड लाइनें:

  • ग्रीन-ज़ोन अब तक शून्य पुष्टि मामलों वाले जिले होंगे; या, पिछले 21 दिनों में कोई पुष्ट मामला नहीं।
  • रेड जोन के रूप में जिलों का वर्गीकरण सक्रिय मामलों की कुल संख्या, पुष्ट मामलों की दोहरीकरण दर, जिलों से परीक्षण और निगरानी प्रतिक्रिया की सीमा को ध्यान में रखेगा।
  • वे जिले, जिन्हें न तो लाल और न ही हरे रंग के रूप में परिभाषित किया गया है, को ऑरेंज ज़ोन के रूप में वर्गीकृत किया जाएगा।

  1. छत्तीसगढ़ ने मनरेगा के तहत अधिकतम रोजगार दिए

COVID-19 महामारी के कारण राष्ट्रव्यापी तालाबंदी के बीच महात्मा गांधी राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण रोजगार गारंटी अधिनियम (MGNREGA) के तहत रोजगार प्रदान करने के मामले में छत्तीसगढ़ ने राज्यों की सूची में सबसे ऊपर है। ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था को पुनर्जीवित करने और लोगों की आजीविका को सुरक्षित रखने के राज्य के प्रयास में छत्तीसगढ़ में कुल 18.52 लाख मजदूर कार्यरत थे।

ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के अनुसार, छत्तीसगढ़ में पूरे देश में उत्पन्न होने वाली कुल मनरेगा नौकरियों का लगभग 24% हिस्सा है। आंकड़ों के अनुसार, लॉकडाउन के बावजूद, कुल 18,51,536 श्रमिकों ने छत्तीसगढ़ की 9,883 ग्राम पंचायतों में MNREGA की नौकरियां कीं।

  1. NCSTC और DST ने COVID -19 से लड़ने के लिए “YASH” लॉन्च किया

पहल का उद्देश्य सार्वजनिक सहभागिता को प्रोत्साहित करना और समुदायों को COVID -19 के प्रति जागरूकता की भावना को बढ़ाने में सक्षम बनाना है। इसके द्वारा, सरकारें सूचित निर्णय ले सकती हैं और संबद्ध जोखिमों का प्रबंधन कर सकती हैं। YASH कार्यक्रम साहस, आत्मविश्वास के साथ सामना करने के लिए जोखिम की समझ, स्वदेशी ज्ञान में सुधार, व्यवहार परिवर्तन लाने में मदद करेगा।

  1. मणिपुर काले चावल और गोरखपुर टेराकोटा को जीआई (GI) टैग मिला

मणिपुर के काले चावल, जिसे चकवाओ, गोरखपुर टेराकोटा और कोविलपट्टी के कदलाई मित्तल को भौगोलिक संकेत (GI) टैग मिला है। चक-हाओ के लिए आवेदन चक-हाओ (काला चावल) के उत्पादकों के संघ द्वारा दायर किया गया था, जो कृषि विभाग, मणिपुर सरकार और उत्तर पूर्वी रीजनल कृषि विपणन निगम लिमिटेड (NERAMAC) द्वारा सुविधा प्रदान की गई थी। गोरखपुर टेराकोटा के मामले में, उत्तर प्रदेश में लक्ष्मी टेराकोटा मुर्तिकला केंद्र द्वारा आवेदन दायर किया गया था।

  1. “रामायण” विश्व स्तर पर सबसे ज्यादा देखा जाने वाला मनोरंजन कार्यक्रम बना

1980 के दशक की भारत की महाकाव्य पौराणिक गाथा, ‘रामायण’ ने विश्व स्तर पर सर्वाधिक देखे जाने वाले मनोरंजन कार्यक्रम का विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया है। 16 अप्रैल, 2020 को पूरी दुनिया में पौराणिक शो को 7.7 करोड़ दर्शकों ने देखा।

भारत की महाकाव्य पौराणिक गाथा “रामायण” रामानंद सागर द्वारा लिखित और निर्देशित थी। 2003 में, इस शो ने “दुनिया में सबसे ज्यादा देखी जाने वाली पौराणिक श्रृंखला” के लिए लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकॉर्ड्स में अपना नाम बनाया।

  1. कोयले की खानों के समय पर परिचालन के लिए MoC ने PMU लॉन्च किया

कोयला मंत्रालय (MoC) द्वारा एक परियोजना निगरानी इकाई (PMU) शुरू की गई है। परियोजना निगरानी इकाई का लक्ष्य केंद्र सरकार द्वारा आवंटित की गई कोयला खानों के शीघ्र परिचालन को सुगम बनाना है। यह खदानों के संचालन के लिए केंद्र / राज्य सरकार के अधिकारियों से आवश्यक विभिन्न मंजूरी प्राप्त करने में कोल खानों को आवंटित करने में मदद करेगा और इसलिए, कोयला उद्योग में ईज ऑफ डूइंग बिजनेस को बढ़ावा देगा।

कोयला खदानों का आवंटन किया गया है कि वे जल्द से जल्द कोयला उत्पादन फिर से शुरू करने के लिए अपने मुद्दों को हल करने में सलाहकार की सेवाओं का उपयोग करें। इसलिए, परियोजना निगरानी इकाई (पीएमयू) कोयला उद्योग में उत्पादन के साथ-साथ कारोबारी माहौल को आगे बढ़ाने में मदद करेगी।

IIT मद्रास के प्रोफेसर थलप्पिल प्रदीप को निक्केई एशिया पुरस्कार 2020 के लिए चुना गया है। प्रोफेसर थलप्पिल प्रदीप को विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी की श्रेणी में निक्केई एशिया पुरस्कार 2020 से सम्मानित किया जाएगा। उन्हें नैनो-प्रौद्योगिकी आधारित जल शोधन में अग्रणी कार्य के लिए पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जाएगा।
