Google India head Rajan Anandan to join Sequoia India as MD
Venture capital firm Sequoia India said Google India head Rajan Anandan will be joining the company as Managing Director. The company added that Rajan will be focusing on the startup accelerator Surge, which was launched earlier this year, and act as an investment advisor and mentor to the programme’s founders. He is set to leave Google by April-end.

Japan unveils name of its new imperial era ‘Reiwa’
Japan has announced that the name of its new imperial era, set to begin on 1 May, will be ‘Reiwa’, signifying order and harmony. The country’s current era, Heisei, will end in April. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has addressed the nation to explain its meaning.
The name ‘Reiwa’ which consists two Chinese characters, the first meaning ‘good’ or ‘beautiful’ as well as ‘order’ or ‘command’ and the second meaning ‘peace’ or ‘harmony’.

The Indian Army has successfully built the longest suspension bridge ‘Matiri Bridge’ over the Indus River in the Leh-Ladakh region. Built in a record time of 40 days ‘Maitri Bridge’ is longest Suspension Bridge over Indus River.
Kandhamal Haldi gets Geographical Indications (GI) tag
‘Kandhamal Haldi’, a variety of turmeric indigenous to southern Odisha, has earned the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from Intellectual Property India, an organization functioning under the auspices of the Union ministry of commerce & industry.
The recognition coincided with the state’s Foundation Day (Utkal Divas). Kandhamal in Odisha’s southern hinterland is famed for its turmeric. The agricultural product also stands out for its healing properties and arresting aroma.

Praful Patel to be first Indian in FIFA Executive Council
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Praful Patel is reportedly set to become first Indian to be elected as a member in the FIFA Executive Council for a four-year term. Patel could become a part of the five FIFA Council members from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) when the regional body holds its elections on April 6.

Algeria’s President Bouteflika resigns
Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has resigned from the post with immediate effect, ceding power in the face of massive street protests against his 20-year rule. Bouteflika has come under mounting pressure to step down since his decision to seek a fifth term despite rarely being seen in public after suffering a stroke in 2013.

SC quashes RBI’s February 12 circular on resolving bad debt
The Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed the RBI’s circular from February 12 last year on debt resolution. The circular directed lenders to refer any loan account over 2,000 crore under IBC if it’s not resolved within 180 days of default. The apex court declared the RBI circular “ultra vires”, meaning that the central bank had acted beyond its powers.

जापान ने अपने नए शाही युग नाम का ‘रीवा’ होगा
जापान ने घोषणा की है कि 1 मई से शुरू होने वाले अपने नए शाही युग का नाम, ‘रीवा’ होगा, जो आदेश और सामंजस्य को दर्शाता है। देश का वर्तमान युग, हेइसी, अप्रैल में समाप्त होगा। प्रधान मंत्री शिंजो आबे ने राष्ट्र को इसका अर्थ समझाने के लिए संबोधित किया है।
‘रीवा’ नाम जिसमें दो चीनी अक्षर हैं, पहला अर्थ ‘अच्छा’ या ‘सुंदर’ और साथ ही ‘आदेश’ या ‘कमांड’ और दूसरा अर्थ ‘शांति’ या ‘सद्भाव’।

भारतीय सेना ने लेह-लद्दाख क्षेत्र में सिंधु नदी पर सबसे लंबा सस्पेंशन ब्रिज ‘मतिरी ब्रिज’ बनाया है। 40 दिनों के रिकॉर्ड समय में निर्मित ‘मैत्री ब्रिज’ सिंधु नदी पर बना सबसे लंबा सस्पेंशन ब्रिज है।
कंधमाल हल्दी को भौगोलिक संकेत (जीआई) टैग मिला
दक्षिणी ओडिशा की विभिन्न प्रकार की हल्दी ‘कंधमाल हल्दी’ ने, बौद्धिक संपदा भारत से भौगोलिक संकेत (जीआई) टैग अर्जित किया है, जो केंद्रीय वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्रालय के तत्वावधान में काम कर रहा है।
यह मान्यता राज्य के स्थापना दिवस (उत्कल दिवस) के दिन दी गई। ओडिशा के दक्षिणी इलाकों में कंधमाल अपनी हल्दी के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। यह कृषि उत्पाद अपने उपचार गुणों और सुगंध के लिए प्रसिद्ध है।

अल्जीरिया के राष्ट्रपति अब्देलअज़ीज़ बुउटफ्लिका ने अपने 20 साल के शासन के खिलाफ बड़े पैमाने पर सड़क विरोध प्रदर्शन के बीच सत्ता को कोसते हुए तत्काल प्रभाव से पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। Bouteflika 2013 में एक स्ट्रोक पीड़ित होने के बाद सार्वजनिक रूप से देखे जाने के बावजूद पांचवें कार्यकाल की तलाश करने के अपने फैसले के बाद से कदम उठाने के बढ़ते दबाव में आ गई है।

SC ने खराब कर्ज को हल करने के लिए RBI के 12 फरवरी के परिपत्र को खारिज कर दिया
सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मंगलवार को कर्ज समाधान पर पिछले साल 12 फरवरी से आरबीआई के परिपत्र को खारिज कर दिया। सर्किल ने उधारदाताओं को IBC के तहत 2,000 करोड़ से अधिक के किसी भी ऋण खाते का उल्लेख करने के लिए निर्देशित किया है यदि यह डिफ़ॉल्ट के 180 दिनों के भीतर हल नहीं हुआ है। शीर्ष अदालत ने आरबीआई के परिपत्र को “अल्ट्रा वायर्स” घोषित किया, जिसका अर्थ है कि केंद्रीय बैंक ने अपनी शक्तियों से परे काम किया था।
