  1. Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa leaves for 4-day Sweden visit

Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa has left for Sweden on a four-day official visit. He will visit various operational and training units as well as interact with senior functionaries of the Swedish Air Force amongst others.

The visit would provide an impetus towards defense cooperation and pave the way for greater interaction and cooperation between the Air Forces. This would also strengthen relationships and enable engagement in productive exchanges between the two Air Forces.


  1. US ends special trade treatment for India amid tariff dispute

The US will end preferential trade status for India next week, President Donald Trump has confirmed amid a deepening row over protectionism. India had been the largest beneficiary of a scheme that allows some goods to enter the US duty-free.

In March Trump announced that it would be revoked because India had failed to provide adequate access to its markets, but Mr. Trump gave no date.

  1. Doval given Cabinet rank, to continue as National Security Advisor

Ajit Doval has been given Cabinet rank in the Government of India in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain. His appointment will be for five years. However, Doval, under whose supervision the 2016 surgical strikes after Uri attack and the 2019 Balakot strikes took place, will continue to be the country’s National Security Advisor.


  1. Nayib Bukele sworn in as president of El Salvador

In the Central American country of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele has been sworn-in as the nation’s President. Bukele was sworn-in by the Speaker of the National Assembly in downtown San Salvador. Bukele was elected in February to succeed Salvador Sanchez Ceren, a leftist former guerrilla.

  1. BBNL plans to take over optical fibre infra under BharatNet

Bharat Broadband Network (BBNL) Chairman Sarvesh Singh has said the state-run telecom infrastructure provider is planning to take over operations and maintenance work of optical fibre-based infrastructure being laid under BharatNet project. The entire maintenance of fibre under BharatNet is done by BSNL, he added. BBNL had allocated around 70% of rural broadband network roll-out work to BSNL.

  1. Delhi govt makes metro and bus travel free for women

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced women can travel free of cost on all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains. “Women who can afford these modes of transport can purchase tickets, they need not take subsidy,” he added. “Around 3,000 new public buses will be on the streets by the end of the year,” he further said.

  1. VP Sivakolundhu elected as Puducherry Assembly Speaker

Puducherry Deputy Speaker and Lawspet legislator VP Sivakolundhu was on Monday elected as the new Speaker of the Union Territory Assembly. The Speaker’s chair fell vacant after Congress’ V Vaithilingam stepped down on March 21 to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the lone Puducherry parliamentary seat. The Congress leader, Sivakolundhu, was the sole contender for the Speaker’s post.
