Vesak Day 2020 observed globally on 7 May
Vesak Day 2020 is observed globally on 7 May. Vesak, the Day of Full Moon is the most sacred day to the Buddhists all over the world. On this day, Lord Gautham Buddha attained enlightenment. The Day is commemorated by the United Nations every year.
The Day if being celebrated by the United Nations since 2000. The resolution to celebrate the day was passed in 1999. Since 2004, International Vesak Summit is being organized. In 2019, it was held in Vietnam. So far, the summit has been held 11 times in Thailand, 3 times in Vietnam and 1 time in Sri Lanka. The decision to celebrate the birthday of Buddha as Vesak Day was first formalized at the World Fellowships of Buddhists conference that was held in Sri Lanka in 1950. The conference was attended by Buddhist leaders from several countries.
Indian Navy launches Operation “Samudra Setu”
An operation named “Samudra Setu” has been launched by the Indian Navy. “Samudra Setu” means “Sea Bridge”. This operation is a part of India’s effort to bring back Indian citizens who are stranded overseas amid COVID-19 pandemic. The whole operation will be executed in close coordination with Ministries of Defence, External Affairs, Home Affairs, Health including various other agencies of the Government of India and State governments.
As part of Phase-1 of operation “Samudra Setu”, Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa and Magar are presently proceeding to the port of Malè, Republic of Maldives to start evacuation operations from 08 May 2020. Indian Navy has planned to evacuate a total of 1000 persons during the first trip. To overcome the unique challenges associated with COVID-19 strict protocols have also been stipulated.
DPS Negi takes charge as Director General to Labour Bureau
Indian Economic Services officer, DPS Negi took charge as Director-General of Labour Bureau in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Besides this, Negi also assumed charge as Senior Labour & Employment Advisor of the ministry. He is an Indian Economic Services (IES) officer of the 1985 batch. Prior to this new assignment, Negi served as Advisor Finance (MSME).
CSIR-IGIB partners with TATA Sons for licensing KNOWHOW for FELUDA
Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), constituent lab of CSIR, has signed a MoU with TATA Sons for licensing of KNOWHOW for FELUDA in order to execute rapid diagnosis of COVID-19. The MoU aims to provide license which will enable transfer of the knowledge for scaling up the KNOWHOW in the form of a kit in order to employ it for COVID-19 testing on ground as soon as possible. Hence, as per MoU, CSIR-IGIB will now work along with TATA Sons to bring FELUDA for widespread use at the earliest.
FNCAS9 Editor Linked Uniform Detection Assay (FELUDA) has been designed to alleviate the current COVID-19 situation and cater to mass testing. The main advantages of FELUDA is its affordability, relative ease of use as well as non-dependency on expensive Q-PCR machines.
DRDO develops Ultra Violet Disinfection Tower
An Ultra Violet (UV) Disinfection Tower has been developed by the Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC), a premier laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The UV Disinfection Tower has been developed to achieve rapid and chemical free disinfection of high infection prone areas. It is a UV based area sanitiser which is beneficial for high tech surfaces such as electronic equipment, computers and other gadgets in laboratories as well as offices that are not suitable for disinfection with chemical methods.
The UV based area sanitiser may be operated remotely through laptop/mobile phone with the help of wifi link and would be also effective for areas with large flow of people such as shopping malls, factories, metros, airports, hotels, offices, etc. It has also the facility of getting switched off on accidental opening of room or human intervention.
Tarun Bajaj becomes new director on RBI Central Board
Economic Affairs Secretary, Tarun Bajaj becomes new director on Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). His appointment is confirmed by the Government of India. He is a 1988 batch Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer. He will replace Atanu Chakraborty, who retired on April 30.
Prior to taking over as Economic Affairs Secretary, Bajaj was the Additional Secretary in Prime Minister’s Office. Before joining the Prime Minister’s Office in 2015, Bajaj was Joint Secretary in the Economic Affairs Department, looking after multilateral funding agencies division.
Chandigarh launches App “CHDCOVID” to provide COVID-19 information
Chandigarh government has launched a new mobile app named “CHDCOVID” to provide COVID-19 related information. The app has been developed in-house by the Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC). The app will act as a single point platform where people can access all the guidelines, orders and notifications issued by Administration and Government of India.
National Gallery of Modern Art presents “NGMA KE SANGRAH SE”
National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi has presented a virtual program “NGMA KE SANGRAH SE”. For the current week, the theme of the virtual program is “ARTIST BY ARTISTS” and dedicated it to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore as it coincides with his 159th birth anniversary on 7th May 2020. During the program “NGMA KE SANGRAH SE”, NGMA will display the rarely seen jewels from its repository.
Various other exciting and thought-provoking themes are planned for the coming days. These kind of virtual programs as well as exhibitions will provide art lovers, artists, art connoisseurs, students, teachers, an opportunity to see the rarely presented artworks from their homes. It would be based on various weekly/ daily themes from NGMA’s prestigious collections.
Lt Gen Raj Shukla assumes charge of ARTRAC
Lieutenant General Raj Shukla assumed command of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC). General Shukla was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in December 1982. He commanded a Medium Regiment in the Eastern / Desert Theatres, an Infantry Brigade in counter-insurgency operations, an Infantry Division along the LoC in Kashmir and a Corps along the Western Borders.
General Shukla has served two tenures at the Military Operations Directorate and as the Director-General, Perspective Planning at Army HQ. He has also been Commandant of the Indian Army War College.

वैशाख दिवस 2020 7 मई को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया गया
7 मई को विश्व स्तर पर वैशाख दिवस मनाया गया। वैशाख, पूर्णिमा का दिन दुनिया भर के बौद्धों के लिए सबसे पवित्र दिन है। इस दिन भगवान गौतम बुद्ध ने आत्मज्ञान प्राप्त किया था। हर साल संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा इस दिवस को मनाया जाता है।
यह दिन यदि 2000 से संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा मनाया जा रहा है। इस दिवस को मनाने का प्रस्ताव 1999 में पारित किया गया था। 2004 से, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वैशाख शिखर सम्मेलन आयोजित किया जा रहा है। 2019 में, यह वियतनाम में आयोजित किया गया था। अब तक शिखर सम्मेलन थाईलैंड में 11 बार, वियतनाम में 3 बार और श्रीलंका में 1 बार आयोजित किया गया है। बुद्ध के जन्मदिन को वैशाख दिवस के रूप में मनाने का निर्णय पहली बार विश्व फेलोशिप ऑफ बुद्धिस्ट सम्मेलन में लिया गया था जिसे 1950 में श्रीलंका में आयोजित किया गया था। इस सम्मेलन में कई देशों के बौद्ध नेताओं ने भाग लिया था।
भारतीय नौसेना ने ऑपरेशन “समुंद्र सेतु” शुरू किया
भारतीय नौसेना द्वारा “समुंद्र सेतु” नामक एक अभियान शुरू किया गया है। “समुंद्र सेतु” का अर्थ है “सी ब्रिज”। यह ऑपरेशन भारत के उन नागरिकों को वापस लाने के प्रयास का हिस्सा है, जो COVID-19 महामारी के बीच विदेशों में फंसे हुए हैं। पूरे ऑपरेशन को रक्षा, विदेश मंत्रालय के मंत्रालयों के करीबी समन्वय में निष्पादित किया जाएगा। गृह मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार और राज्य सरकारों की विभिन्न अन्य एजेंसियों सहित स्वास्थ्य।

CSIR- IGIB ने FELUDA के लिए KNOWHOW के लाइसेंस के लिए टाटा संस के साथ साझेदार की

डिफेंस रिसर्च एंड डेवलपमेंट ऑर्गनाइजेशन (DRDO) की एक प्रमुख प्रयोगशाला, लेजर साइंस एंड टेक्नोलॉजी सेंटर (LASTEC) द्वारा अल्ट्रा वायलेट (UV) कीटाणुशोधन टॉवर विकसित किया है। यूवी कीटाणुशोधन टॉवर को उच्च संक्रमण प्रवण क्षेत्रों के तेजी से और रासायनिक मुक्त कीटाणुशोधन को प्राप्त करने के लिए विकसित किया गया है। यह एक यूवी आधारित सेनिटाइज़र है जो उच्च तकनीकी सतहों जैसे कि इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरणों, कंप्यूटर और प्रयोगशालाओं में अन्य गैजेट्स के साथ-साथ कार्यालयों के लिए फायदेमंद है जो रासायनिक विधियों के साथ कीटाणुशोधन के लिए उपयुक्त नहीं हैं।
यूवी आधारित क्षेत्र सैनिटाइज़र को वाईफाई लिंक की सहायता से लैपटॉप / मोबाइल फोन के माध्यम से दूरस्थ रूप से संचालित किया जा सकता है और यह शॉपिंग मॉल, कारखानों, महानगरों, हवाई अड्डों, होटलों, कार्यालयों आदि जैसे बड़े प्रवाह वाले क्षेत्रों के लिए भी प्रभावी होगा। कमरे या मानव हस्तक्षेप के आकस्मिक उद्घाटन पर बंद होने की सुविधा भी है।
तरुण बजाज RBI सेंट्रल बोर्ड में नए निदेशक बने
आर्थिक मामलों के सचिव, तरुण बजाज भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक (RBI) के केंद्रीय बोर्ड में नए निदेशक बने। उनकी नियुक्ति की पुष्टि भारत सरकार द्वारा की जाती है। वह 1988 बैच के भारतीय प्रशासन सेवा (IAS) अधिकारी हैं। वह अतनु चक्रवर्ती की जगह लेंगे, जो 30 अप्रैल को सेवानिवृत्त हुए थे।
आर्थिक मामलों के सचिव के रूप में कार्यभार संभालने से पहले, बजाज प्रधान मंत्री कार्यालय में अतिरिक्त सचिव थे। 2015 में प्रधान मंत्री कार्यालय में शामिल होने से पहले, बजाज आर्थिक मामलों के विभाग में संयुक्त सचिव थे, जो बहुपक्षीय वित्त पोषण एजेंसियों के प्रभाग की देखभाल करते थे।
चंडीगढ़ ने COVID-19 की जानकारी देने के लिए ऐप “CHDCOVID” लॉन्च किया
चंडीगढ़ सरकार ने COVID-19 संबंधित जानकारी प्रदान करने के लिए “CHDCOVID” नाम से एक नया मोबाइल ऐप लॉन्च किया है। ऐप को सोसायटी फॉर प्रमोशन ऑफ आईटी इन चंडीगढ़ (SPIC) द्वारा इन-हाउस विकसित किया गया है। ऐप एक एकल बिंदु प्लेटफ़ॉर्म के रूप में कार्य करेगा जहाँ लोग प्रशासन और भारत सरकार द्वारा जारी किए गए सभी दिशानिर्देशों, आदेशों और अधिसूचनाओं तक पहुँच सकते हैं।

लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राज शुक्ला ने ARTRAC का प्रभार ग्रहण किया
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राज शुक्ला ने आर्मी ट्रेनिंग कमांड (ARTRAC) की कमान संभाली। जनरल शुक्ला को दिसंबर 1982 में आर्टिलरी की रेजिमेंट में नियुक्त किया गया था। उन्होंने पूर्वी / डेजर्ट थियेटरों में एक मध्यम रेजिमेंट की कमान संभाली, आतंकवाद रोधी अभियानों में एक इन्फैंट्री ब्रिगेड, कश्मीर में एलओसी के साथ एक इन्फैंट्री डिवीजन और पश्चिमी सीमा पर कमान संभाली।
जनरल शुक्ला ने सैन्य संचालन निदेशालय में दो कार्यकाल और सेना मुख्यालय में महानिदेशक, परिप्रेक्ष्य योजना के रूप में कार्य किया है। वह भारतीय सेना युद्ध कॉलेज के कमांडेंट भी रह चुके हैं।
