  1. Ministry of WCD and Ministry of Skill Development sign MoU

The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship entered into an MoU aimed at improving women livelihood and empowering them through skill development. The MOU was signed in the presence of Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Minister, Women and Child Development and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK) and the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) will be the implementing partners on behalf of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship respectively.

  1. Hardeep S Puri launches e-Dharti app

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri has launched e-Dharti app where all the three modules- Conversion, Substitution and Mutation related to properties have been made online. The payment system in Land and Development Office, L&DO has also been completely digitized.

The public can now submit their applications online by visiting the L&DO website and are not required to visit this office for submission of them and for follow up of their applications. Mr Puri also launched e-Dharti GeoPortal, through which the lessee of the property will be able to see the basic details of property along with map showing its location.

  1. President Kovind to give Nari Shakti awards on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is being observed on 08th March. Governments, NGOs and other organisations across the world observe the day on the 8th of March every year to highlight the achievements of women.

The theme for this year’s women’s day is ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change’. The purpose of the theme is to achieve gender equality by putting innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts. President Ram Nath Kovind will present the highest civilian honor for women in India, Nari Shakti Puraskar 2018 in New Delhi. This year, 44 awardees have been selected for these Puraskar.

  1. UNDP appoints Padma Lakshmi as Goodwill Ambassador

Indian-American television personality and food expert Padma Lakshmi has been appointed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as its newest Goodwill Ambassador, supporting the agency’s fight against inequality and discrimination around the world. UNDP announced Lakshmi’s appointment on the eve of International Women’s Day.

  1. SC appoints 3-member mediation panel to resolve Ayodhya land dispute

The Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench has referred the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case for court-appointed and monitored mediation for a ‘permanent solution’. The mediation process will be headed by Retired Justice F.M. Kalifulla and also comprise Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu. The media reporting of the mediation proceedings will be banned, the order stated.

  1. Kummanam Rajasekharan resigns as Mizoram Governor

Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan has stepped down from his post. Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, has been given temporary charge of the Aizawl Raj Bhavan. Mr. Rajasekharan, who was former State president of the BJP in Kerala, had been sworn in as Governor of Mizoram in May 2018.

  1. PM Modi lays foundation of Kashi Vishwanath Temple corridor

PM Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone of Kashi Vishwanath Temple corridor in Varanasi. PM Modi said that with the construction of this corridor, the temple complex will get direct connectivity with river Ganga. Targeting the previous government for delaying the project, he added that after Yogi Adityanath became the CM, development of Kashi is progressing efficiently.

  1. Ausaf Sayeed appointed new Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia

Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, presently High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Seychelles, has been appointed as the next ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia. The Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1989 batch, Sayeed will succeed Ahmad Javed, who had been serving as envoy to Saudi Arabia since December 2015.
