World Migratory Bird Day observed globally on 9 May
World Migratory Bird Day is observed globally on 9 May every year. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of migratory birds and the importance of international cooperation to conserve them. This time the theme of World Migratory Bird Day 2020 is “Birds Connect Our World”. The theme highlights the importance of conserving and restoring the ecological connectivity and integrity of ecosystems that support the natural cycles that are essential for the survival and well-being of migratory birds.
This day is organized by a collaborative partnership among two UN treaties the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) and the Colorado-based non-profit organization, Environment for the Americas (EFTA). This day is a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness of migratory birds and the need for international cooperation to conserve them.
IMD’s forecast now includes PoK and Gilgit Baltistan
The Indian Meteorological Department has begun to include Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh and Muzaffarabad into its meteorological sub-division of Jammu and Kashmir.
The change reflects the changed status of Ladakh. It also comes with underlying message to the Pakistan Government. The change comes after Pakistan Government. Iran introduces new currency “Toman” to tackle Inflation
The Government of Iran recently takes a decision of changing the name of its currency to a “Toman”. Under the bill, Iran national currency is going to be changed from the rial to the Toman, which is adequate to 10,000 rials.
The idea of removing four zeros has been floated since 2008 but gained strength after 2018 when U.S. President Donald Trump exited Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions because the rial lost quite 60% of its value. Iran’s weak currency and high inflation have led to sporadic street protests since late 2017.
China launches new rocket “Long March 5B” successfully
China has successfully launched a new rocket named “Long March 5B” into space as it steps up Moon landing plans. This rocket is launched in Wenchang launch site that is located on the island of Hainan, china.
The rocket is a massive vehicle and is being compared with deep space Orion capsule of NASA. The rocket in the future will help China transport astronauts to space station by 2022. The rocket launch will also aid China in its plans of building a huge space station called “Tiangong”. Tiangong is the space station programme of China.
UNEP extends actress Dia Mirza term as goodwill ambassador till 2022
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) extended the term of Bollywood actress and environmentalist Dia Mirza as the Goodwill Ambassador of India till 2022. The actress is also the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal Advocate. As a Goodwill Ambassador, Mirza will continue work with the UN to further spread the message on key areas including clean air, clean seas, wildlife protection and climate change.
Goodwill Ambassadors on the request of the United Nations will raise funds, engage in public advocacy (like creating awareness, etc.). Their term of service is for 2 years. The Goodwill Ambassadors are not paid under the UNEP. However, they will be provided with a symbolic payment of 1 USD per year. They will also be provided with travel allowances.
MP becomes 1st state to provide Mid-Day Meal ration
Madhya Pradesh has become the 1st state in the country to provide mid-day meal ration. Distribution of the mid-day Meal ration with the help of Anganwadi workers, Panchayat representatives and local teachers was taken in sending ration to the students at their home after the school closing in April.
To provide mid-day meal to school children in the corona outbreak an amount of Rs 117 crore has been transferred online in the bank account of the parents of 66 lakh 27 thousand students of primary and secondary school by the state government. Under door-to-door mid-day meal scheme, ration has also been provided to 56 lakh 87 thousand children.
Tamil Nadu government increases retirement age to 59
Tamil Nadu government increases the retirement age of the government staff, teachers and those in public sector units from 58 years to 59 years. More than 25,000 government employees were set to superannuate this financial year. Those who are due for retirement on May 31 this year will now retire on May 31, 2021.
The order has come into immediate effect and will be applicable to all government employees, teaching and nonteaching staff in government and aided educational institutions, and employees of constitutional statutory bodies, PSUs, corporations, local bodies, boards, commissions and societies.

World Thalassaemia Day is observed globally on 8 May every year. This day is observed to raise awareness about thalassaemia disease, its preventive measures and to avoid transmission and the importance of vaccination for children’s health, society and among the people throughout the world. Union Health & Family Welfare Minister launches “AYUSH Sanjivani” App
Union Health & Family Welfare Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan has recently launched the mobile application ‘AYUSH Sanjivani’ App and two AYUSH based studies related to COVID-19 situation.
The app was developed by the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY). The AYUSH Sanjivani mobile app will help to generate data on acceptance and usage of AYUSH advocacies and measures among the population and its impact on the prevention of COVID-19. It is expected to reach out to a target of 50 lakh people.

विश्व प्रवासी पक्षी दिवस हर साल 9 मई को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया जाता है। दिन का उद्देश्य प्रवासी पक्षियों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाना और उनके संरक्षण के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहयोग का महत्व है। इस बार विश्व प्रवासी पक्षी दिवस 2020 की थीम है “बर्ड्स कनेक्ट अवर वर्ल्ड”। यह थीम पारिस्थितिक तंत्र की प्राकृतिक कनेक्टिविटी और अखंडता के संरक्षण और बहाल करने के महत्व पर प्रकाश डालती है जो प्राकृतिक चक्रों का समर्थन करती हैं जो प्रवासी पक्षियों के अस्तित्व और कल्याण के लिए आवश्यक हैं।

आईएमडी के पूर्वानुमान में अब पीओके और गिलगित बाल्टिस्तान भी शामिल

चीन ने सफलतापूर्वक “लॉन्ग मार्च 5 बी” नामक एक नया रॉकेट लॉन्च किया है चीन चंद्रमा लैंडिंग की योजना बना रहा है। यह रॉकेट वेनचांग लॉन्च स्थल से लॉन्च किया गया है जो चीन के हैनान द्वीप पर स्थित है।
रॉकेट एक विशाल वाहन है और इसकी तुलना नासा के गहरे अंतरिक्ष ओरियन कैप्सूल से की जा रही है। भविष्य में रॉकेट 2022 तक अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन तक ले जाने में चीन की मदद करेगा। रॉकेट लॉन्च चीन को “तियांगोंग” नामक एक विशाल अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन के निर्माण की योजना में सहायता करेगा। तियांगोंग चीन का अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन कार्यक्रम है।
यूएनईपी ने 2022 तक सद्भावना दूत के रूप में अभिनेत्री दीया मिर्जा के कार्यकाल का विस्तार किया
संयुक्त राष्ट्र पर्यावरण कार्यक्रम (UNEP) ने बॉलीवुड अभिनेत्री और पर्यावरणविद दीया मिर्जा के कार्यकाल को 2022 तक भारत के सद्भावना राजदूत के रूप में विस्तारित किया। अभिनेत्री संयुक्त राष्ट्र की स्थिरता विकास लक्ष्य की पक्षधर भी हैं। सद्भावना राजदूत के रूप में, मिर्ज़ा संयुक्त राष्ट्र के साथ स्वच्छ वायु, स्वच्छ समुद्र, वन्यजीव संरक्षण और जलवायु परिवर्तन सहित प्रमुख क्षेत्रों में संदेश फैलाने के लिए काम करना जारी रखेंगी।
संयुक्त राष्ट्र के अनुरोध पर सद्भावना राजदूत धन जुटाएंगे, सार्वजनिक वकालत में संलग्न होंगे (जैसे जागरूकता पैदा करना, आदि)। उनकी सेवा की अवधि 2 साल के लिए है। यूएनईपी के तहत सद्भावना राजदूतों का भुगतान नहीं किया जाता है। हालांकि, उन्हें प्रति वर्ष 1 यूएसडी का प्रतीकात्मक भुगतान प्रदान किया जाएगा। उन्हें यात्रा भत्ते प्रदान किए जाएंगे।
मध्याह्न भोजन राशन प्रदान करने वाला एमपी पहला राज्य बन गया

कोरोना प्रकोप में स्कूली बच्चों को मध्याह्न भोजन उपलब्ध कराने के लिए राज्य सरकार द्वारा प्राथमिक और माध्यमिक स्कूल के 66 लाख 27 हजार छात्रों के माता-पिता के बैंक खाते में 117 करोड़ रुपये ऑनलाइन हस्तांतरित किए गए हैं। डोर-टू-डोर मिड-डे मील योजना के तहत, 56 लाख 87 हजार बच्चों को राशन भी प्रदान किया गया है।
तमिलनाडु सरकार ने सेवानिवृत्ति की आयु बढ़ाकर 59 कर दी

केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्री, डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने हाल ही में COVID-19 स्थिति से संबंधित मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन ‘आयुष संजीवनी’ ऐप और दो आयुष आधारित अध्ययन शुरू किए हैं।
एप्लिकेशन को आयुर्वेद, योग और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा, यूनानी, सिद्ध, और होम्योपैथी (आयुष) और इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय (MEITY) मंत्रालय द्वारा विकसित किया गया है। आयुष संजीवनी मोबाइल ऐप, आयुष अधिवक्ताओं की स्वीकृति और उपयोग पर डेटा और जनसंख्या के बीच उपायों और COVID -19 की रोकथाम पर इसके प्रभाव को उत्पन्न करने में मदद करेगा। इसके 50 लाख लोगों के लक्ष्य तक पहुंचने की उम्मीद है।
