  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi receives Philip Kotler award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received the first-ever Philip Kotler Presidential award in New Delhi. The award focuses on the triple-bottom-line of ‘people, profit and planet’. According to the award citation, PM Modi was selected for his “outstanding leadership for the nation”. The Prime Minister’s Office said that it will be offered annually to the leader of a nation.

  1. Kartik Singh becomes youngest Indian to win Junior World Title

Gurgaon’s 8-year-old Kartik Singh has won the under-8 category at the Kids’ Golf World Championship organized by US kids Golf in Malaysia, which makes him the youngest Indian to win the title.

  1. Sikkim CM launched ‘One Family, One Job’ scheme

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling launched the ‘One Family One Job’ scheme, under which for every family one government job has been allotted, in Gangtok. New recruits were taken for Group C and Group D posts in 12 departments.

Thus, Sikkim became the first state in the country to carry out such a programme for the people entitling them to state government employee benefits. He also declared that all loan debts in the farming and agriculture sector would be revoked.

  1. India, US hold 2+2 Inter-Sessional Meeting in New Delhi

A 2+2 Inter-Sessional meeting between the United States and India took place in New Delhi, focusing on the progress of defence and foreign policy issues between the two countries.

The Indian delegation was led jointly by Joint Secretary (AMS) from the Ministry of External Affairs Gourangalal Das, and Joint Secretary (PIC) from the Ministry of Defence, Shambhu S Kumaran.

  1. Gujarat becomes the 1st state to implement 10% quota for General category

Gujarat has become the first state to implement the 10% reservation for economically weaker sections of the general category. This comes a day after President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the bill.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani stated that it will also be applicable to jobs for which announcement has been made but the procedure is yet to commence.

  1. Rajyavardhan Rathore launched ‘National Youth Parliament Festival 2019’

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Col Rajyavardhan Rathore launched the National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 at a function in New Delhi.

The theme of the festival is- ‘Be the Voice of New India and Find solutions and contribute to policy’. The Ministry has decided to organise the youth festival at every district of the country so that the youth between the age group of 18 to 25 years can participate and discuss and debate about how to make a New India.

  1. Accenture’s 59-yr-old CEO steps down after 8 yrs over health reasons

Consulting major Accenture’s 59-year-old Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pierre Nanterme has stepped down from his position citing health reasons. Nanterme, who held the CEO position since 2011 and also served as Chairman, said in July 2016 that he had surgery for colon cancer. Accenture’s Chief Financial Officer David Rowland has been named the interim CEO.

  1. Wholesale inflation falls to 8-month low of 3.8% in December

Wholesale inflation in the country fell to an eight-month low of 3.8% in the month of December as compared to 4.64% in November. The rate of wholesale inflation fell during the month due to easing prices of food articles, especially fruits and vegetables. Fuel and power inflation reduced to 8.38%, nearly half of 16.28% in November.

Bengaluru Raptors have won their first ever Premier Badminton League, PBL title. In the title clash played at Bengaluru, Bengaluru edged out Mumbai Rockets, with a 4-3 win.

Star player Kidambi Srikanth, Vu Ji Trang and the Men’s Doubles pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Satiawan won their matches for Bengaluru guiding them to victory.

  1. Flipkart Co-founder Sachin Bansal invests 150 crore in Ola

Flipkart Co-founder Sachin Bansal has invested nearly 5150 crore ($21 million) in ride-hailing startup Ola in Series J funding round. He was issued 70,588 Series J preference shares at 321,250 per share, as per documents filed with the Registrar of Companies. Reports claimed Bansal has finalised an investment of up to $100 million in Ola, his largest personal investment.

Flipkart-owned fashion subsidiaries Myntra and Jabong’s CEO Ananth Narayanan has resigned from his position in the first big exit after Flipkart Co-founder Binny Bansal resigned as Flipkart Group CEO two months ago. Amar Nagaram, who was moved to Myntra from Flipkart, has been named as Head of Myntra and Jabong. Nagaram will report to Kalyan Krishnamurthy, the CEO of Flipkart.
