Global Recycling Day observed globally on 18th March
Global Recycling Day is observed globally on 18th March every year. This day was first observed on March 18, 2018, by the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) and celebrated globally every year to raise awareness of the importance of recycling. The Global Recycling Foundation announces “Recycling Heroes” as the theme for third Global Recycling Day. The main aim of the day is to turn ‘waste’ into a valuable resource.
A. Ajay Kumar becomes India’s next High Commissioner to Republic of Ugandaa
A. Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Uganda. A. Ajay Kumar is currently posted as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. Ajay Kumar is a 2001 batch IFS officer.
Uganda is among the poorest countries on the African continent. One-third of the population here is forced to live below the international poverty line.
SC clears permanent commission for women in Indian Navy
The Supreme Court of India cleared permanent commission for women officers in the Indian Navy. The apex court asked the Centre to complete the modalities within three months. A bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud said, there cannot be any excuses for not granting gender equality in the armed forces.
The bench, also comprising Justice Ajay Rastogi, rejected the Centre’s stand that sea sailing duties cannot be granted to SSC (Short Service Commission) women officers in the Navy as its Russian vessels do not have washrooms for them. The court was contrary to the Centre’s policy of 1991 and 1998 which lifted the statutory bar on the induction of women officers in the Navy. The bench quashed the prospective effect of the policy barring women officers inducted before 2008 from being granted permanent commission in the Navy. It also granted pension benefits to women officers who have retired and were not granted permanent commission.
Arundhati Bhattacharya resigns from Crisil board
Arundhati Bhattacharya has submitted her resignation from Crisil board. She was serving as the independent director of the Crisil. Her resignation will be effective on April 15, 2020. She has submitted her resignation as she will be joining as a Chairperson and CEO for the India operations of Salesforce, USA.
Arundhati Bhattacharya was the first woman to serve as the Chairman of the State Bank of India. Presently, she is also serving as the Chairman of the international payment platform Swift India.
Indian Navy installs Quarantine Facility at Visakhapatnam
Indian Navy has established a Quarantine Camp at INS Vishwakarma in Eastern Naval Command (ENC). The Quarantine Camp has been set up for Indian nationals being evacuated from COVID-19 affected countries. This is an effort of Indian Navy to augment India’s fight against the spread of COVID-19. The Quarantine Camp has the capacity to accommodate nearly 200 personnel with all appropriate facilities.
Indian nationals being evacuated from COVID-19 affected countries will be closely monitored by a team of naval personnel and medical professionals of ENC. The monitoring of evacuated persons will be done in accordance with the protocols laid down by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
L&T Services and IIT-Kanpur collaborate for research in industrial cyber security
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and L&T Technology Services (LTTS) have collaborated to carry out joint research in industrial and infrastructure cybersecurity. A multi-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by LTTS CEO and managing director Keshab Panda and IIT Kanpur deputy director Prof Manindra Agarwal.
DAC approves procurement of Tejas fighter aircraft for IAF
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the procurement of indigenous Tejas fighter aircraft for Indian Air Force. 83 indigenous Tejas fighter aircrafts will be procured for the Indian Air Force. The new procurement order is expected to provide a major boost to Make in India as the aircraft is indigenously designed. The Tejas aircraft is expected to become the back bone of the IAF’s fleet in the coming future.
Iraqi President appoints Adnan al-Zurfi as new PM-designate
Iraqi President Barham Salih has appointed Adnan alZurfi as the country’s new prime minister. Al-Zurfi has 30 days to form his cabinet which he must then put to a vote of confidence in Iraq’s fractious Parliament. He will succeed Mohammed Allawi, the 1st politician named by the president as PM-designate who withdrew his candidacy for the post. Al-Zurfi was a former governor of the holy Shia city of Najaf & heads the Nasr parliamentary group of former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
Adel Abdul Mahdi was an interim PM who withdrew his candidature in December 2019 after heavy protest where 40 people were killed by security forces.
7th World Cities Summit to be held in Singapore
The 7th World Cities Summit (WCS) will be held from 5 to 9 July 2020 in Singapore. It is organized by Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities and the Urban Redevelopment Authority. The theme for WCS 2020 is “Livable and Sustainable Cities: Adapting to a Disrupted World”. The WCS 2020 is held in conjunction with the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) and the Clean Enviro Summit Singapore (CESG).
Singapore Government invited Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to the WCS-2020. The WCS was inaugurated in the year 2008 and conducted once in 2 years. This platform brings Government leaders, Industrial experts to forge new partnerships and address liveable and sustainable city challenges, sharing integrated urban solutions and there will be discussions about how cities can cope with climate change, social shifts and technological disruptions with confidence.
$100 Billion coronavirus relief package signed by Donald Trump
To ensure sick leave to Americans workers who fall ill from the new coronavirus, President of the United States, Donald Trump has signed a $100billion emergency aid package. The $100 Billion coronavirus relief package aims to strengthen the protective measures against the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
In the United States, the service sector have been hit hard after the closure of hotels, travel and entertainment sectors and the restrictions on restaurants and malls. The relief package will facilitate free coronavirus testing for those who need it, sick pay and paid family leave. The relief package will also bolster unemployment insurance for millions of Americans. It also includes the medical benefits and food aid for those affected by the pandemic.

सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने भारतीय नौसेना में महिलाओं के लिए स्थायी कमीशन को मंजूरी दी
भारत के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने भारतीय नौसेना में महिला अधिकारियों के लिए स्थायी कमीशन को मंजूरी दे दी। शीर्ष अदालत ने केंद्र को तीन महीने के भीतर तौर-तरीके पूरे करने को कहा। न्यायमूर्ति डी वाई चंद्रचूड़ की अध्यक्षता वाली पीठ ने कहा, सशस्त्र बलों में लैंगिक समानता नहीं देने का कोई बहाना नहीं हो सकता।
न्यायमूर्ति अजय रस्तोगी की पीठ ने भी केंद्र के इस रुख को खारिज कर दिया कि नौसेना में एसएससी (लघु सेवा आयोग) की महिला अधिकारियों को समुद्री नौकायन चार्ज नहीं दिया जा सकता क्योंकि इसके रूसी जहाजों के लिए वॉशरूम नहीं हैं। अदालत 1991 और 1998 की केंद्र की नीति के विपरीत थी जिसने नौसेना में महिला अधिकारियों को शामिल करने पर वैधानिक रोक हटा दी थी। पीठ ने 2008 में महिला अधिकारियों को नौसेना में स्थायी कमीशन दिए जाने से पहले प्रतिबंधित नीति के संभावित प्रभाव को समाप्त कर दिया। इसने उन महिला अधिकारियों को पेंशन लाभ भी दिया जो सेवानिवृत्त हो चुकी हैं और उन्हें स्थायी कमीशन नहीं दिया गया है।
अरुंधति भट्टाचार्य ने क्रिसिल बोर्ड से दिया इस्तीफा
अरुंधति भट्टाचार्य ने क्रिसिल बोर्ड से अपना इस्तीफा सौंप दिया है। वह क्रिसिल के स्वतंत्र निदेशक के रूप में सेवारत थीं। उनका इस्तीफा 15 अप्रैल, 2020 को प्रभावी होगा। उन्होंने अपना इस्तीफा सौंप दिया है क्योंकि वह सेल्सफोर्स, यूएसए के भारत संचालन के लिए एक अध्यक्ष और सीईओ के रूप में शामिल होंगी।

भारतीय नौसेना विशाखापत्तनम में क्वारंटाइन फैसिलिटी (Quarantine Facility) स्थापित की
भारतीय नौसेना ने पूर्वी नौसेना कमान (ENC) में INS विश्वकर्मा में एक क्वारंटाइन फैसिलिटी (Quarantine Facility) शिविर की स्थापना की है। COVID-19 प्रभावित देशों से निकाले जा रहे भारतीय नागरिकों के लिए क्वारंटाइन फैसिलिटी शिविर स्थापित किया गया है। यह COVID-19 के प्रसार के खिलाफ भारत की लड़ाई को बढ़ाने के लिए भारतीय नौसेना का एक प्रयास है। संगरोध शिविर में सभी उपयुक्त सुविधाओं के साथ लगभग 200 कर्मियों को समायोजित करने की क्षमता है।
COVID-19 प्रभावित देशों से निकाले जा रहे भारतीय नागरिकों पर ENC के नौसेना कर्मियों और चिकित्सा पेशेवरों की एक टीम द्वारा कड़ी निगरानी रखी जाएगी। खाली किए गए व्यक्तियों की निगरानी, स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण विभाग, भारत सरकार द्वारा निर्धारित प्रोटोकॉल के अनुसार की जाएगी।
एल एंड टी सर्विसेज और आईआईटी-कानपुर औद्योगिक साइबर सुरक्षा में अनुसंधान एमओयू पर हस्ताक्षर किए
इंडियन इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी, कानपुर (IIT-K) और L&T टेक्नोलॉजी सर्विसेज (LTTS) ने औद्योगिक और अवसंरचना साइबर सुरक्षा में संयुक्त अनुसंधान करने के लिए सहयोग किया है। एलटीटीएस के सीईओ और प्रबंध निदेशक केशब पांडा और आईआईटी कानपुर के उप निदेशक प्रो। मनिंद्र अग्रवाल द्वारा बहु-वर्षीय समझौता ज्ञापन (एमओयू) पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए हैं।
DAC ने IAF के लिए तेजस लड़ाकू विमान की खरीद को मंजूरी दी
रक्षा अधिग्रहण परिषद (DAC) ने भारतीय वायु सेना के लिए स्वदेशी तेजस लड़ाकू विमान की खरीद को मंजूरी दे दी है। भारतीय वायु सेना के लिए 83 स्वदेशी तेजस लड़ाकू विमान खरीदे जाएंगे। नए खरीद ऑर्डर से मेक इन इंडिया को बड़ा बढ़ावा मिलने की उम्मीद है क्योंकि विमान को स्वदेशी रूप से डिजाइन किया गया है। आने वाले भविष्य में तेजस विमान से भारतीय वायुसेना के बेड़े की रीढ़ की हड्डी बनने की उम्मीद है।
इराकी राष्ट्रपति अदनान अल-ज़र्फी को नए पीएम के रूप में नियुक्त किया
इराकी राष्ट्रपति बरहम सलीह ने अदनान अलज़ुरफ़ी को देश का नया प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त किया है। अल-ज़र्फी के पास अपनी कैबिनेट बनाने के लिए 30 दिन का समय है जिसे उन्हें इराक की संसद में विश्वास मत के लिए डालना होगा। वह राष्ट्रपति द्वारा नामित 1 राजनेता मोहम्मद अल्लावी को पीएम नामित करेंगे, जिन्होंने पद के लिए अपनी उम्मीदवारी वापस ले ली थी। अल-ज़र्फी पवित्र शिया शहर नजफ़ के पूर्व गवर्नर थे और पूर्व प्रधान मंत्री हैदर अल-अबादी के नासर संसदीय समूह के प्रमुख थे।

7 वां विश्व शहरों का शिखर सम्मेलन (डब्ल्यूसीएस) सिंगापुर में 5 से 9 जुलाई 2020 तक आयोजित किया जाएगा। यह सिंगापुर के सेंटर फॉर लाइवेबल सिटीज और शहरी पुनर्विकास प्राधिकरण द्वारा आयोजित किया जाता है। डब्ल्यूसीएस 2020 के लिए थीम “Livable and Sustainable शहर: एडाप्टिंग टू ए डिसपायर्ड वर्ल्ड” है। WCS 2020 का आयोजन सिंगापुर इंटरनेशनल वॉटर वीक (SIWW) और क्लीन एनवायरो समिट सिंगापुर (CESG) के संयोजन में किया गया है।
