World Bee Day observed globally on 20th May
World Bee Day is observed globally on 20th May every year. On this date, 20 May, the pioneer of beekeeping Anton Janša was born in 1734 in Slovenia. The purpose of the bee day is to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem. About 33% of the world’s food production depends on bees thus they are vital for the preservation of biodiversity, ecological balance in nature and helpful in reducing pollution.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual event held under the theme “Bee Engaged”. The theme will specifically focus on bee production and good practices adopted by beekeepers to support their livelihoods and deliver good quality products.
China announces USD 2 billion help at WHO assembly
China has announced to provide USD 2 billion over two years to fight the coronavirus pandemic at WHO assembly. The USD 2 billion over subsequent two years will support COVID-19 response efforts, particularly in developing countries.
The decision comes after, when China faced growing global pressure over the lockdowns, the death toll and a huge increase in coronavirus cases that has brought the world to a standstill. WHO announced the coronavirus outbreak to be a worldwide health emergency on January 30. It declared the outbreak to be a pandemic on March 11, after the virus had killed thousands globally.
Cyclone Amphan intensifies into Super Cyclone
Cyclone Amphan intensified into a super cyclone with wind speed above 200 kmph moved further NorthNortheastwards over West Central Bay. Amphan is the first super cyclone to hit the region in the last two decades since a super cyclone-hit Odisha in 1999 causing widespread damage and loss of life.
India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Odisha and West Bengal under its impact. The coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal, including North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, East and West Midnapore, Howrah and Hooghly will experience heavy rain.
ICC cricket committee set to ban the use of saliva to shine ball
The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Cricket Committee has recommended banning on the use of saliva to shine the ball. The practice meant for swing bowling is now primarily held as health risk due to the threats of COVID-19 and protect the safety of players and match officials. This committee is chaired by former India leg-spinner Anil Kumble.
The committee also proposed the appointment of non-neutral match officials for all international matches. However, the ICC Cricket Committee saw no harm in the use of sweat to shine the ball. Instead use of artificial substance to shine the ball is being considered. Apart from this, the committee also recommended increasing the use of DRS review per innings from two to three.
Ladakh becomes СOVID-19 free after recovery of all active cases
The Union Territory, Ladakh has become corona virus free as the region have not reported any fresh case since 3rd May 2020. Also, infected patients who were undergoing treatment in Leh District have recovered from the deadly disease. A total of 43 cases of Coronavirus were reported in Ladakh till now and all the confirmed cases have recovered from the COVID-19.
Alibaba’s Jack Ma resigns from SoftBank board
Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma will be resigning from SoftBank board of directors. Jack Ma serving for nearly 13 years in the board. Ma is expected to resign from the Group’s board on June 25. The news comes as the group posted record financial loss of USD 13 billion. Jack Ma had retired as the Executive Chairman of Alibaba in September 2019.
The Softbank Group’s board of directors comprises 11 directors. The Group is expected to expand the number of its board members to 13. The company recently proposed nomination of three new directors to the board: chief Financial Officer Yoshimoto Got, Cadence Design Systems CEO Lip-Bu Tan and Waseda Business School professor Yuko Kawamoto.
Kotak Mahindra Bank becomes 1st bank in India to allow video KYC
Kotak Mahindra Bank becomes 1st bank in India to allow video Know your customer (KYC) facility for customers opening savings accounts on Kotak 811 – the banks digital banking platform. The initiative is presently being launched on a pilot basis for savings accounts, Kotak Mahindra. With Video KYC, verification of documents, signature are completed via a video call with a representative from the bank without any physical interface.
In January 2020, the Reserve Bank of India amended the Know Your Customer (KYC) norms and introduced the video-based KYC option to onboard customers. Kotak is the first bank to integrate the Video KYC process in the account opening journey.
Bundesliga becomes 1st major sports event to resume post COVID-19 lockdown
The Bundesliga primary football league of Germany becomes the world’s first major sports event to resume after COVID-19 lockdown. The Bundesliga games began with empty stadium though the stadium had the capacity to hold more than 80,000 players. Bundesliga means “Federal League”.
The players are being tested twice a week. The teams participating in the games were kept under quarantine. The teams entered the ground at different times. The substitutes sat well apart during the matches.
73rd session of World Health Assembly held via video conferencing
The 73rd session of World Health Assembly was held via video conferencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 73rd session of the assembly featured the participation of the delegations from all WHO Member States and focused on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. During the session, India was represented by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. During the session, the minister highlighted the timely, graded and proactive steps taken by the Indian government towards COVID-19 management.
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of WHO. The World Health Assembly is responsible to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget. It is held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.
Madhya Pradesh launches Charan Paduka campaign for migrant labourers
“Charan Paduka” campaign has been launched by the Madhya Pradesh for the migrant labourers moving through the state. Under this campaign, shoes and slippers will be offered to those labourers going barefoot in order to reduce their pain.
The “Charan Paduka” campaign is being conducted by the police at most of the places in the state, starting from the Rau Police Station of Indore.

विश्व मधुमक्खी दिवस 20 मई को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया गया

चीन ने WHO असेंबली में 2 बिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की मदद की घोषणा की
चीन ने WHO असेंबली में कोरोनावायरस महामारी से लड़ने के लिए दो वर्षों में 2 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर प्रदान करने की घोषणा की है। बाद के दो वर्षों में USD 2 बिलियन COVID-19 प्रतिक्रिया प्रयासों का समर्थन करेगा, विशेष रूप से विकासशील देशों में।
यह निर्णय तब आया, जब चीन ने लॉकडाउन पर बढ़ते वैश्विक दबाव का सामना किया, मौत और टोल और कोरोनोवायरस के मामलों में भारी वृद्धि ने दुनिया को एक ठहराव में ला दिया। डब्ल्यूएचओ ने 30 जनवरी को दुनिया भर में स्वास्थ्य आपातकाल के लिए कोरोनोवायरस के प्रकोप की घोषणा की। 11 मार्च को इस प्रकोप को महामारी घोषित किया गया, जब वायरस ने विश्व स्तर पर हजारों लोगों की जान ले ली थी।
चक्रवात Amphan सुपर साइक्लोन में बदला

भारत के मौसम विभाग ने इसके प्रभाव में ओडिशा और पश्चिम बंगाल में भारी बारिश की चेतावनी दी है। उत्तर और दक्षिण 24 परगना, कोलकाता, पूर्व और पश्चिम मिदनापुर, हावड़ा और हुगली सहित गंगीय पश्चिम बंगाल के तटीय जिलों में भारी बारिश होगी।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट परिषद की (ICC) क्रिकेट समिति ने गेंद को चमकाने के लिए लार के इस्तेमाल पर प्रतिबंध लगाने की सिफारिश की है। COVID -19 के खतरों और खिलाड़ियों और मैच अधिकारियों की सुरक्षा की रक्षा के लिए स्विंग बॉलिंग के लिए अभ्यास को मुख्य रूप से स्वास्थ्य जोखिम के रूप में रखा। इस समिति की अध्यक्षता भारत के पूर्व लेग स्पिनर अनिल कुंबले ने की है।

अलीबाबा के सह-संस्थापक जैक मा ने सॉफ्टबैंक के निदेशक मंडल से इस्तीफा दे दिया। जैक मा बोर्ड में लगभग 13 वर्षों तक सेवारत रहे। मा को 25 जून को समूह के बोर्ड से इस्तीफा देने की उम्मीद है। समाचार के अनुसार समूह ने 13 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर का वित्तीय घाटा दर्ज किया है। जैक मा सितंबर 2019 में अलीबाबा के कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष के रूप में सेवानिवृत्त हुए थे।

कोटक महिंद्रा बैंक भारत का पहला बैंक बन गया है जिसने अपने ग्राहकों की सुविधा के लिए कोटक 811 – बैंक डिजिटल बैंकिंग प्लेटफॉर्म पर बचत खाता खोलने वाले ग्राहकों के लिए वीडियो नो योर कस्टमर (केवाईसी) सुविधा प्रदान की है। वर्तमान में बचत खातों, कोटक महिंद्रा के लिए पायलट आधार पर पहल शुरू की जा रही है। वीडियो केवाईसी के साथ, दस्तावेजों का सत्यापन, हस्ताक्षर बिना किसी भौतिक इंटरफ़ेस के बैंक के प्रतिनिधि के साथ वीडियो कॉल के माध्यम से पूरा किया जाता है।
जनवरी 2020 में, भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने नो योर कस्टमर (केवाईसी) मानदंडों में संशोधन किया और ऑनबोर्ड ग्राहकों को वीडियो-आधारित केवाईसी विकल्प पेश किया। कोटक खाता खोलने की यात्रा में वीडियो केवाईसी प्रक्रिया को एकीकृत करने वाला पहला बैंक है।

COVID-19 महामारी के कारण विश्व स्वास्थ्य सभा का 73 वां सत्र वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के माध्यम से आयोजित किया गया। सभा के 73 वें सत्र में सभी डब्ल्यूएचओ सदस्य राज्यों के प्रतिनिधिमंडलों की भागीदारी थी और कार्यकारी बोर्ड द्वारा तैयार किए गए एक विशिष्ट स्वास्थ्य एजेंडे पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया था। सत्र के दौरान, भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने किया। सत्र के दौरान, मंत्री ने COVID-19 प्रबंधन की ओर भारत सरकार द्वारा उठाए गए समयबद्ध, वर्गीकृत और सक्रिय कदमों पर प्रकाश डाला।

मध्य प्रदेश ने प्रवासी मजदूरों के लिए चरण पादुका अभियान शुरू किया
मध्य प्रदेश द्वारा राज्य में घूमने वाले प्रवासी मजदूरों के लिए “चरण पादुका” अभियान शुरू किया गया है। इस अभियान के तहत, उन मजदूरों को जूते और चप्पल पेश किए जाएंगे, जो अपने दर्द को कम करने के लिए नंगे पांव जाते हैं।
इंदौर के राऊ पुलिस स्टेशन से शुरू होकर राज्य के अधिकांश स्थानों पर पुलिस द्वारा “चरण पादुका” अभियान चलाया जा रहा है।
