  1. Volcano-triggered tsunami kills 43 in Indonesia, injures 500

At least 43 people have been killed and over 500 others have been injured in a tsunami that hit Indonesia. Hundreds of homes and other buildings were “heavily damaged” in the natural disaster which struck on Saturday. The tsunami was likely caused by a combination of underwater landslides due to a volcanic eruption, Indonesia’s meteorological, climatological and geological agency said.

  1. RBI shortlists TCS, Wipro to set up Public Credit Registry

Reserve Bank of India has shortlisted six IT majors including TCS, Wipro and IBM India to set up Public Credit Registry (PCR) for capturing details of borrowers and wilful defaulters. The other shortlisted companies are Capgemini Technology Services India, Dun & Bradstreet Information Services India, and Mindtree. RBI aims to address information asymmetry and improve access to credit through PCR.

  1. National Farmers’ Day observed on 23rd December

National Farmers’ Day (Kisan Diwas) 2018 was celebrated all over India on 23rd of December. It is celebrated in the honour of the former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh with the focus on the upliftment of the status of farmers.

In Lucknow, a program was organised by Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He also unveiled a statue of Sri Chaudhary Charan Singh in Ghaziabad and announce the allocation of Rs. 325 crore for the development of the city and rural areas.

  1. RIL acquires 5.56% stake in UK tech startup for 35 crore

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries on Saturday said it acquired a 5.56% equity stake in UK-based technology startup VAKT Holdings for 335 crore. Founded in 2018, the startup provides a platform for physical post-trade processing using blockchain technologies. The startup is also backed by banks including ING, Societe Generale and ABN AMRO.

  1. Nuclear-capable Agni-IV missile successfully test-fired

India on Sunday successfully test-fired nuclear strategic ballistic missile Agni-IV from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast as a part of user trial by the Army. The missile has a 4,000-km strike range and is equipped with advanced avionics, 5th generation on board computer and distributed architecture. This is the seventh trial of Agni-IV missile.

  1. CBSE Class 10 exams to begin from Feb 21, Class 12 from Feb 15

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today released the board examinations date sheet for the academic year 2018-19. Class 12 examinations will begin from February 15 and conclude on April 3, while Class 10 examinations will take place from February 21 to March 29. All the exams will be conducted in the morning session (10.30 am to 1.30 pm).
