  1. Hindustan Unilever fined 383 cr for not passing lower GST benefit

The GST anti-profiteering authority has found Hindustan Unilever guilty of not passing on rate cut benefits of 3383 crore to consumers. The company has been asked to deposit 5223 crore in central and state consumer welfare funds as the company had already deposited 160 crore. However, the authority has admitted Hindustan Unilever’s claim that its customers benefitted through higher grammage.

  1. No plans to change age limit for civil service exam: Govt

Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh on Tuesday clarified that the government is not planning to change the age criteria for eligibility to appear in civil services examinations. Speculations were triggered after the NITI Aayog reportedly proposed that the upper age limit for aspirants be reduced to “27 years for the general category in a phased manner by 2022-23”.

  1. Reserve Bank of India to soon introduce new 20 banknotes: Report

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon introduce new 20 currency notes with additional features, reported PTI citing an RBI document on Tuesday. Despite the new notes coming into circulation, the old 320 notes will not be withdrawn, the report added. According to RBI data, about 10 billion pieces of 20 banknotes were in circulation in March 2018.

  1. India takes over operations of Chabahar port in Iran

Indian firm India Ports Global Limited on Monday formally took over the operations of Chabahar’s Shaheed Behesti port in Iran, which opens a trade route between India and central Asia bypassing Pakistan. The company opened its office following the first meeting of the follow-up committee for implementation of the trilateral Chabahar Agreement between India, Iran and Afghanistan.

  1. PM Modi pays tribute to late PM Vajpayee on 94th birth anniversary

PM Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday paid tribute to late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal on his 94th birth anniversary. “We reiterate our commitment towards creating the India he dreamt of,” PM Modi tweeted. Naidu remembered him as “a most beloved leader, above all, a great human being”.

  1. PM Modi inaugurates India’s longest road-cum-rail bridge Bogibeel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Bogibeel Bridge, which is India’s longest road-cumrail bridge, in Assam’s Dibrugarh. The 4.94-km-long bridge will connect the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra and reduce travel time from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh to four hours. It has a serviceable period of around 120 years.
