  1. Rajnath Singh inaugurates over 150 projects in Lucknow

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated as many as 158 development projects in Lucknow on Tuesday, which was the 94th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also laid the foundation stone for 418 development projects, making it a total of 576 projects worth 7161 crore. Vajpayee had served as a Member of Parliament from Lucknow.

  1. Google to fund 10 Indian media companies to fight fake news

Google has selected 10 Indian media companies among 87 organisations from 23 countries for funding under its Google News Initiative to fight fake news. Many of these projects are focused on expanding newsroom video operations and trying out new ways of reporting through video, Google said. The company’s video-sharing platform YouTube had committed $25 million for the same in July.

  1. PV Bharathi appointed MD and CEO of Corporation Bank

PV Bharathi has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and CEO of state-run Corporation Bank. Bharathi, who currently serves as Executive Director in Canara Bank, will take over charge on or after February 1, 2019, and remain in the post till March 31, 2020. Further, Birupaksha Mishra was appointed as Executive Director in Corporation Bank.

  1. Vedanta to set up steel plant in Jharkhand’s Bokaro for $4 billion

Billionaire Anil Agarwal’s Vedanta on Tuesday said it will set up a new steel plant in Jharkhand’s Bokaro with a capacity of 4.5-million-tonne-per-annum at an investment of up to $4 billion. The plant will be part of the company’s newly-acquired Electrosteel Steels. The plant will create 1.2 lakh jobs in the form of direct and indirect employment, Agarwal claimed.

  1. 10 lakh bank employees go on one-day nationwide strike

More than 10 lakh bank employees have gone on a one-day nationwide strike on Wednesday to protest against the proposed amalgamation of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda. This will be the second bank strike in less than a week. Last Friday, an officers’ union of state-run banks observed a day-long strike to protest against the merger.
