  1. iPhone assembler Foxconn invests 1,500 crore in Indian unit

Apple’s biggest iPhone assembler Foxconn said it injected up to $213.5 million (over 31,500 crore) into its Indian unit between September and January for “long-term investment”. The Taiwanese firm doesn’t make any iPhones in India, though it manufactures Xiaomi’s handsets in the country. Apple currently assembles the lower-cost SE and 6S models in India through Wistron’s local unit in Bengaluru.

  1. India, S Africa sign 3-yr strategic programme to deepen ties

India and South Africa have signed a Three-Year Strategic Programme of Cooperation (2019-2021), aimed at further enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries. The two nations agreed to enhance ties in the economic and defence sector, among others. This came as South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited India to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations.

  1. L&T chief, MDH owner among 4 business leaders to get Padma Awards

The government has conferred India’s second highest civilian honour Padma Vibhushan on construction giant Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Chairman AM Naik, Mahashay Dharam Pal Gulati, the 95-year-old owner of spices maker MDH, and John Chambers, former CEO of US technology giant Cisco Systems, were chosen for Padma Bhushan. Photoshop maker Adobe’s India-born CEO Shantanu Narayen was conferred Padma Shri.

  1. NLCILinks pact with TN to set up mines

State-owned NLC India Ltd on Saturday said it has signed an agreement with Tamil Nadu to set up mines and power projects in the state. The company already operates four lignite mines of capacity 30.6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) (in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan) and five thermal power stations of capacity 3,140 mega watt (in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan), out of which, 28.6 MTPA lignite mines and 2,890 MW thermal power stations are located in Tamil Nadu.

  1. Malayalam actor Mohanlal conferred with Padma Bhushan

Malayalam film actor Mohanlal will be awarded India’s third highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan, for his contribution to cinema. The five-time National Film Award winning actor was earlier honoured with the Padma Shri in 2001. Indian classical sitar maestro Budhaditya Mukherjee was also amongst the fourteen Padma Bhushan recipients.
