UPSC Indian Forest Services (IFS) Eligibility Criteria: – Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conduct exam for the recruitment of Indian Forest Services (IFS). Eligibility details are given below…


For the Indian Forest Services (IFS), a candidate must be either:

(a).   a citizen of India, or

(b).   a subject of Nepal, or

(c).   a subject of Bhutan, or

(d).   a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January. 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e).   a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that candidate belonging to category (b), (c), (d) & (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Govt. of India.

Age Limit: – A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years as on 01-08-2018 i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 02-08-1986 and not later than 02-08-1997.

The Upper Age Limit is Relaxable as Follows:

(i).       5 years age relaxable for SC/ ST candidates

(ii).      3 years age relaxable for OBC candidates

(iii).     Age relaxable for 3 years in case of defence services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or disturbed area.

(iv).     5 years Age relaxable for Ex-service men including commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of a assignment of 5 years military service.

(v).      Ten years Age relaxation for in the case of:-

(a).      Low Vision

(b).     Hearing Impaired (Partially deaf) and

(c).      Locomotor disability (sub-category : Leprosy cured and Acid attack)

(vi).     Upto maximum of 5 years in the case of ECOs/SSOs who have completed an intial period of assignment of 5 years Military Service.

Educational qualification: – The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Note: – Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would render them educationally qualified for the Commission’s examination but have not been informed of the results as also the candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination. All candidates who are declared qualified by the Commission for taking the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination will be required to produce proof of passing the requisite examination with their application for the Main Examination failing which such candidates will not be admitted to the Indian Forest Service Main Examination. The applications for the Main Examination will be called sometime in the month of July/August, 2018 through on-line mode.

Physical and Medical Standards: – Candidates must be physically and medically fit according to the physical/medical standards for the Indian Forest Services Examination.
